I’m James Malinao, an IT graduate focused on Linux, networking, infrastructure support, technical troubleshooting, and self-hosted systems. I’m most useful when a problem crosses boundaries; user, network, host, service, or configuration.

I operate a growing service stack using monitoring, logs, service state, resource usage, and network behavior to isolate problems instead of treating restarts as a fix.

Active Directory, workstation deployment and imaging, endpoint troubleshooting, VLAN/network monitoring through PRTG, and coordination with operations and network teams.

I contribute around software I actually use. That gives me both the operator’s view of a problem and the patience to communicate it upstream.

I opened the PHP currency request and was credited as a co-author on the merged implementation. It’s a small feature, but it shows the full open-source loop: identify a real user need, describe it clearly, and see it land upstream.

Navidrome
I’ve contributed upstream to Navidrome, the open-source music server that also runs in my homelab. I prefer contributing to software I operate because I can reason about both the code/project side and the real deployment experience.

I like owning the whole path.
My strongest work happens when software meets infrastructure. I enjoy tracing a problem from the user-facing symptom down through the network, host, service, configuration, or code that caused it.
I maintain my own servers because I genuinely like understanding what happens after deployment: certificates expire, permissions break, routes change, storage fills, services fail, and users still expect things to work.
Open to infrastructure-focused IT roles.
